The Backyard Gang

An outdoor adventure for 5-9 year olds

THE GANG IS A PLACE WHERE KIDS HAVE THE FREEDOM TO PLAY

We are a bunch of 5-9 year olds that meet every week after school and embark on different and exciting adventures. Whether that is hiking the trails, building fires, scrambling through streams or building a rope swing on the beach, we are creating our own Backyard right here in Hong Kong.

Our Gang members get wet, get dirty, poke bugs and laugh, a lot!

We keep our ratios low so every kid gets the attention they deserve. We want our Gang members to love the outdoors, be confident to explore it and have endless curiosity about the boundless possibilities that it has to offer.

Hands down best activity in HK!

CONTACT US

All our Gang sessions are currently full.

If you’d like to be added to our wait list, please contact us with your child’s name and DOB.

Gang Pack

The Gang Pack is in place of a uniform. These identifiable BYG backpacks help bring our Gang Members together as a team. Inside you will find:  water bottle, dry bag, compass, magnifying sheet, logbook, pencil & first aid kit. The Gang Pack costs $750 and will be included in your termly invoice. For any lost items, please contact us.

Drop off and pick up

A full term plan will be sent out at the start of term, please take note of locations as these vary from time to time.  The team will be at the drop off point 10 minutes before the start of the session.

What to wear

We do not have a uniform -the kids are free to dress as they like. However, they should be encouraged to make smart choices in relation to the weather and the activity that week. Good shoes are a must! Please bring along Gang Packs to every session with all gang equipment – don’t forget insect repellent and sun cream!

Communications

Most communication is through dedicated WhatsApp groups. Weekly overviews are sent out to these groups outlining the session’s location and any other relevant information you may need to know. You will also receive the weekly video of your child’s Gang session.

Illness or schedule clash

If your child cannot make it, please let us know. We always wait for the whole Gang to arrive before we set off!

Payment

Invoices will be sent out via email ahead of the start of term.  Payment can be made by bank transfer (HSBC) or cheque.  We ask that full payment is settled prior to the start of term in order to confirm your place.

Weather

Sessions are automatically cancelled during Black rain warnings or the hoisting of the No.8 Typhoon Signal. If the Gang is in progress while a severe weather warning is hoisted we will keep them safe until you can collect them or they can be handed into the care of a Guardian.  Please always assume that we will cancel if Red rain is hoisted. However, if we think it will be safe and Black rain is unlikely to be hoisted then we will go ahead (with caution).  Updates will be sent out to the WhatsApp groups one hour before the start time.  In case of a Typhoon signal 3, assume we are on unless you hear otherwise. Sorry to say that credit or refunds will not be issued for cancellation caused by inclement weather.

Cancellations and refunds

Refunds, credit letters or make up sessions will NOT be given for non-attendance of programmes/events for any reason. Refunds or credit letters will be issued if a doctors note is provided to prove the student is unable to attend due to injury or prolonged illness. All other refunds will be at the discretion of Backyard Roots Ltd management and based on individual circumstances.
